Vi Daley's Campaign Manager says Vi Believes McMansions are "Consistent with Community Goals"

Also,Tom Bowen reports that he wouldn't hire any one of his boss's opponents to shovel snow. Then, he thinks again, and says Tim Egan and Rachel Goodstein would probably do a good job.

Find these thoughts and more fireworks breaking out in the comments section of yesterday's post on the 43rd ward election here.

UPDATE: Here's a clarification of Tom's quote from the comments. He wrote, "“Vi said that they are consistent with community goals: less density and more green space, that's all.”

Jennifer, this blog rocks. Where else are you going to see the word "chickenshit" used so aptly?

I don't know Mr. Bowen and certainly don't have a clue about anonymous. I do know Vi Daley and don't believe she was defending McMansions. On the radio debate they were talking about the Monster Houses on Burling that were in the Tribune. Whether you like these houses or not, they're unique. I think of McMansions as the reduntant cookie cutter lot line to lot line houses that have no character or context. Vi seemed to be saying people on Burling are happy in their big houses. I think I could live in one but I might have trouble finding the kids. And that 1 house on 5 lots offers more yards and less driveways than 5 McMansions on 5 lots. Either way I'm seeing Vi Daley campaign signs in mansions, McMansions and in small wood houses, so she must be doing pretty well. Even that Armitage Hardware guy who fought with her about the historic district has a giant Vi Daley sign on his building.

Stellar... a discussion about how we
are losing our neighborhoods inch by inch.
Where is the control? Who will standup for
the average resident who can only afford a
house on a normal lot? Our community goals are
quality of life and not to serve the interests McMansions, Burling "Uber" Houses and Trophy
Buildings. Enough! We have five highly motiviated
candidates in the race and we should listen to
them carefully to keep the "park" in Lincoln Park.
Mr. Bowen is with Vi Daley campaign, hence
the slams at other candidates he fears.

Is this Tom with Vi Daley? Is so, she should think of getting a replacement. This guys a nutcase.

By the way, aren't the Special Service Area janitors suppose to be removing the snow right now? Clark Street sidewalks are a mess.

Now that we know that Vi and her staff are monitoring this blog, maybe Vi Daley can answer a question for me about her property taxes. Why is it that you didn't take the homeowners exemption on your primary residence at 1807 Orleans between 1995 and 2004? Did you lie to the assessors office about your place of residence and take the exemption on a different property?

So looks like Michele Smith has started the negative mail, as a follow up to all those machine calls last week. I guess the above post will be next. Maybe Vi really lives in a McMansion on Burling and sneaks over to Old Town for the Art Fair.

Property tax is a huge issue in this election. Vi herself puts emphasis on it in her mailings. The question for Vi remains. Why is it that you didn't take the homeowners exemption on your primary residence at 1807 Orleans between 1995 and 2004? Did you lie to the assessors office about your place of residence and take the exemption on a different property? If you just goofed, then say so, and we'll turn elsewhere for our tax advice.

Maybe you should have asked her at a debate, or call her. Maybe the Assessor goofed. But then you couldn't be anonymous. It's nice of you to be making sure she gets all the exemptions on her tax bill

One, there have been no debates with open questioning, or I would ask the question. Maybe it was just a goof by either Vi or the assessor, but it seems highly improbable. As alderman, Vi talks frequently about taxes, and her husband is a real estate professional. It doesn't add up that they would make this mistake. It's far more likely that it was an intentional fraud. Let's just see her explain.

When I got a machine call, I whined to Smith's office. They assured me that they were not the ones doing it and said they only have live people making calls. They said it was some labor group that hated Vi. Anyway, I think they were telling the truth cause I don't remember the exact words, but the recording did not say it was from her. So I was satisfied with that explaination, cause I could see why anyone would hate Vi.

Pretty funny coincidence then that the same labor group is doing mailings that are almost exactly like Michele's donchathink? Even the same postage number. Sort of like the Swift Boat folks had nothing to do with Bush's campaign. She can at least admit that she's working with them.

I compeletely agree with with that logic. Michele is a snake in the grass, she talks down to you as an individual. And I am sure from all the hateful mailings that Michele Smith has sent out that she definitely is involved with the Labor Group's robocalling.

I am so tired of her. I hope either Tim Egan or Vi Daley win, I just do not want to deal with Michele Smith in my ward she is the worsest of all evils.
