43rd Ward Turn Out Hovered just above 28%

According to the unofficial results of the Chicago Board of Elections, 9143 of us turned out. (That reflects all but two of the 59 precincts, which had yet to be included in the final count.) There are more than 32,000 eligible voters.

It would be interesting to find out how many people are ELIGIBLE to vote but aren't registered in the 43rd Ward.

Did Michele Smith vote?

According to the ward map on Vi Daley's web site, there are 67 precincts, not 59. What's up with that?

What's up with that is that thats the old map from before the remap of 2001. You will have to call Vi to find out why it hasn't been changed to the official 59 precinct version.

Election night someone told me Michele's non-voting record didn't just apply to the municipal elections in 1999 and 2003 but to all the elections over the past decade. Guess its time to take a field trip to the Board of Elections to find out the truth.

Back to the map. The map I saw was issued by the Board of Elections. It says it reflects the 12/19/01 redistricting, and it is dated 4/1/02. It shows 67 precincts. Are those dates obsolete?

Yes it is obsolete. While the dates on the 67 precinct version would lead one to believe it is the current version after the last remap it is not. The current 59 precinct version is the official one even though it has some of the same dates on it like-Adopted by city council ordinance on 12/19/01 and dates of 4/1/02 and 11/01/05. Ask the CBOE for poll sheets, etc. and they exist for the current 59 precincts only. I was proposing a 60 day cycle of in-precinct meetings because there are only 59 precincts-each day a different precinct (in addition to regular office hours, ward wide meetings, etc.) to increase opportunities for civic participation.
