Second Annual "Honor the Eagle" Pow Wow Will Also Honor a Win Against Developers

"We are pleased to bring our way of life back to the land that knows us from long ago."
--Midwest SOARRING Foundation

On May 20 and 21 this year, the Midwest SOARRING Foundation will hold a pow wow at Starved Rock State Park. They're honoring a "win" that their organization, the Illinois Audubon Society, Lt. Governor Pat Quinn, and many others gained against developers. The developers wanted to build 50+ cabins on Plum Island, which sits in the Illinois River near Starved Rock. It's a favorite nesting spot for bald eagles, and a native burial ground. In March 2004, the island was purchased with a grant and the deed given to the Illinois Audubon Society for stewardship and protection.
